HALT RECRUITMENT OF FCT HIGH COURT JUDGES, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TELL NJC                                                                              13-02-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                     The House of Representatives has urged the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, to immediately halt the recruitment process until there is compliance with the Federal Character principle and quota system.

This was the resolution of a motion under matters of urgent National importance moved by Mr. Igariwey Enwo from Ebonyi state at plenary.
According to Mr. Enwo, the principle of fair representation should be encouraged in MDAs.
The lawmaker also expressed Concerned over the non-representation of judges from four states in the High Court System of the FCT, when some others have as many as three judges representing them, adding that, it is a gross violation of Section 14(3) of the 1999 constitution which requires staffing from the 36 states including the FCT.

The House also referred the matter to the committees on FCT Judiciary for the purpose of investigating the Federal Character approval that granted the purpose and the extent of compliance
The speaker House of Representatives Dr. Abbas Tajudeen who ruled over the matter, directed the relevant Committees to seek further legislative approach on the matter and report back to the House for further actions.
