By Sadiq Aminu                                                     Affiliated unions under the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Kwara State have staged a peaceful protest today, amidst tight security.

The protest which is in compliance with the national body’s directive, took off from the Labour House at Lanjorin Road, Ilorin and moved through CBN road, Post Office – Cooperative road down to Ahmadu Bello Way.

The NLC State Chairman, Muritala Olayinka maintained that the protest was as a result of economic hardship facing Nigerians due to some policies of the Federal Government.

Comrade Olayinka who explained that although government had fulfilled part of the agreement, which includes payment of wage award to workers, emphasized that the union was not only representing the interest of workers in the formal sector but also those in the informal sector.

The NLC Chairman said the body looks forward to another dialogue with government at the expiration of the 2- day protest.

Comrade assured Nigerians that the labour leaders would not relent in their fight for the wellbeing of the masses.Africa 247 Correspondent Sadiq Aminu reports that security personnel comprising officers of the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps and MOPol were on ground to ensure decorum during the protest.
