GOVERNOR AHMAD ALIYU OF SOKOTO SAYS MODALITIES IN PLACE TO END BANDITRY IN SOKOTO STATE 09-03-24
By Sadiq Aminu The first batch of Sokoto state Community Guards have completed a two month training exercise in the state.
Speaking at the commissioning and passing out parade, the state governor and Commandant General of the Community Guards, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto said the new security outfit was established to complement the effort of the federal government security agencies in addressing the incessant banditry and other criminal activities that had shortchanged the socio-security and economic development of the state.
The governor noted that insecurity has become a bottleneck problem in delivering dividend of democracy in the state.
Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto argued that unless security is maintained the quest to ensuring infrastructural and human capital development would be a mirage in the country.
The governor expressed optimism that the establishment of the community guard would go a long way in eradicating all social vices in the state.
According to him, the state had procured three hundred trucks and eight hundred motorcycles with a view to ensuring quick response to any attack within the state.
In his remarks, Senator Aliyu magatakardan Wamakko said Sokoto being one of the northern states is mostly disturbed by bandits and commended the governor for his visionary in establishing the guards to complement other security outfits in the state .
Earlier, the training Commandant, Major General junaidu Sani Bindawa rtd said the training started with two thousand six hundred trainees but only two thousand five hundred and ninety six succeeded in passing out.
His eminence the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, General Ali Gusau rtd, governors of Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Benue, Plateau were amongst the invited guests who witnessed the ceremony.
