VICE PRESIDENT ALHAJI KASHIM SHETTIMA HAS URGED ACADEMICS TO CHART COURSE FOR SECURE, PROSPEROUS NIGERIA                                                                                      20-04-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The Vice President Alhaji Kashim Shettima has urged academics to chart course for secure, prosperous Nigeria.

While applauding the contributions of academics to national unity, he also emphasised that through their work, a more secure and prosperous country was possible.

The Vice President made the call in Abuja at the public presentation of two books titled “Boko Haram and Other Security Challenges in Nigeria: Issues and Options for Policy” and “Reflections on the 2023 General Elections.”

The books were written by a former Director General of Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) West Africa’s regional body against money laundering, terrorist financing, and Proliferation financing Professor Abdullahi Shehu who is also the immediate past Nigerian Ambassador to Russia.

Represented by the Special Adviser to the president on General duties, Office of the vice president, Aliyu Modibbo Umar, the Vice President said the role of academics as custodians of the nation’s memory and intellectual inquiry should be further enhanced.

The author of the books Professor Abdullahi Shehu said he would remain fulfilled if any of his recommendations were implemented.

The Chairman North East Development Commission Retired General Paul Tarfa said the books are worthy to be use in all institutions of learning.

There were goodwill messages from present and former governors, top government officials, memebers of the Diplomatic corps and the academia.
