MARITIME POLICE IN LAGOS ARREST 2 SUSPECTS, OKECHUKWU AND CHUKWUMA, WHO SPECIALISE IN STEALING EMPTY CONTAINERS AT THE SEAPORTS                                                                                         23-04-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 Two suspects, Okechukwu Onyewunenyi, forty three years and Chukwuma Ogwashima, forty two years, who specialise in stealing empty containers at the seaports have been apprehended by the Maritime Police Command in Lagos.

The two who are members of criminal Syndicates known for highjacking and stealing empty containers from Importers and Transporters with the pretext of using them for stuffing of exports goods, were arrested by the Surveillance Team of Maritime Police Command in Lagos, headed by the Superintendent of Police, Kenneth Ogbeifun, in Lagos.
The duo and the other members of the Syndicates who were at large, are fond of faking indemnity for Shipping Companies and thereafter sell the empty containers to unsuspecting members of the public.
Luck however ran out on them, when a case of stolen containers was reported to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Maritime Police Command in Lagos, AIG Rhoda Olofu, who ordered the Surveillance Team to investigate the matter.
The Suspects were later arrested in their hideout in the Ijegun area of the State while others escaped.
Other members of the gang are, Prince Oba and Israel Godwin.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing Suspects as the two arrested, had since been charged to Court and remanded in prison custody.
Reacting to the matter, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Rowland Ehinmode, in a Statement, says that the AIG Olofu has warned all those who are hell bent at committing all forms of criminalities at the seaports, will not be spared wherever and whenever they are caught.
She states further that, the Command under her watch, will not relent in fighting crimes perpetuated at the seaports and on the nation’s waterways.
