By Sadiq Aminu                                                               The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Anambra stàte has recovered four pump action guns with sixteen live cartridge in the state.

The Commandant of the Corps in the state, Mr Olatunde Maku stated this in Awka, while parading eight suspects arrested in a recent crackdown on unlicensed private security guards in the state.

He issued a stern warning to operators of illegal private security outfits in the state, emphasizing that NSCDC as the regulatory body of the Private Security Guards, remained committed to checkmating their activities especially in the light of the present security challenges.

According to him, the arrest was made in response to intelligence reports and the need to sanitize the security industry allowing only licensed and reputable private security companies to operate in the state.

The NSCDC Boss gave the names of the first three suspects arrested as: Emmanuel Eze,male, aged thirty four, Patrick Nwoye, aged twenty seven and Chibuike Okafor, aged twenty one while Tochukwu Chukwuemeka, aged twenty seven, was arrested at G7 plaza St Joseph Road Awka.

He said the other four suspects, Kingsley Asuauo’, Blessed Mfonu,’ Ikechukwu Emeka and Emmanuel Amu were arrested while providing security services to hotels.

Mr Maku explained that preliminary investigation revealed that some of the arrested suspects were impersonating the Anambra Vigilante Group ( AVG) while others were hired by hotels to provide security services, despite knowing that the outfits were not licensed or registered.

In a release, the Public Relations Officer of the Corps in the state, Mr Edwin Okadigbo said, Mr Maku emphasized that the raid which was still ongoing would help to prevent the proliferation of illegal security outfits and reduce the risk of security breaches and criminal activities, vowing to clamp down on any illegal outfit, arrest and prosecute their operators as well as recover illegal weapons in their possession.
