NIGERIA SET TO APPLY FOR THE WORLD BANK’S PANDEMIC FUND GRANT TO STRENGTHEN HEALTH SECURITY SYSTEM                                                                        06-05-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                               The Pandemic Fund helps low-income countries to improve on preparation, response and prevention of pandemics.

At the National Dialogue on the Nigeria’s Pandemic Fund Grant Application held in Abuja, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, Dr Jide Idris explained that dialogue was aimed at fostering transparency and collaboration to address the challenges associated with any future pandemic.

Dr Idris who recalled the Covid 19 pandemic, noted that it was important the country had a robust health security infrastructure.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate reiterated that health security was a critical pillar of the 4-point agenda on health for this administration.

Contributing on behalf of Commissioners for Health, Dr Muhammad Gana from Yobe State, said states were the beneficiary of the proposal and pledged support to the success of the dialogue.

Representatives for the World Health Organization, UNICEF and US CDC pledged commitment to supporting Nigeria’s response to disease.
