NELFUND: ABOUT 30,000 YOUTHS APPLY FOR STUDENTS LOAN 30-05-24
By Sadiq Aminu Over sixty thousand students have registered for the student loan since the application portal was inaugurated last Friday.
The Managing Director of Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyer made this known at news briefing in Abuja.
Mr. Sawyer explained that out of this number, about thirty thousand have successfully applied for the loan.
”Sixty thousand are those who have registered on the platform. About thirty thousand have successfully applied for the loan but that does not mean the thirty thousand have been approved. Up until this point, nobody has been given the loan. Now its time for evaluation.”
He stated that so far, over ninety percent of federal universities have uploaded their details on the website and urged others expedite the process to ensure that all eligible students have access to financial support.
Mr. Sawyer announced that the Agency would soon begin accepting applications from students in state-owned tertiary institutions
The Managing Director of the NELFUND appealed to the institutions to submit their students’ data to ease the application process.
”In line with our commitment to democratize higher education, we are excited to announce that NELFUND will commence accepting applications from students attending state-owned tertiary institutions in three weeks. We request all state institutions submit their students’ data immediately, as requested, to facilitate a smooth and seamless application process”.
Mr. Sawyer who stressed the need to equip students with the required skills to thrive, said six months from now, the Agency would launch a skills acquisition program to provide training in various vocational and technical fields.
”Beyond financial assistance, NELFUND recognizes the profound importance of equipping our youth with practical, market-relevant skills. Six months from today, we will launch a comprehensive skills acquisition program, providing training in various vocational and technical fields. This program is designed to prepare students to meet the demands of the modern job market, fostering entrepreneurship and innovation among our young people.”
On some of the challenges being experienced by students during the registration process, which include input of wrong data, Mr. Sawyer advised the students re-apply with the accurate information.
