FG AND ORGANISED LABOUR URGED TO QUICKLY REACH AGREEMENT ON NEW MINIMUM WAGE IN THE INTEREST OF THE MASSES                                                                                                                                         04-06-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 National President of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, IEDPU, Alhaji Abdulmumini Abdulmalik made the appeal in an interaction with newsmen in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Alhaji Abdulmalik said the strike is already taking a toll on the socio-economic activities of residents due to shutdown of electricity supply and offices.

He said that the strike also portends danger to national security and peaceful coexistence.

Alhaji Abdulmalik described as necessary, the demand for increment in wages and salaries of workers whose purchasing power has been adversely affected by inflation.

He, however, urged both the organised labour and government to consider the interests of the masses and ensure swift resolution of the issue.

The community leader called for implementation of price control mechanism, particularly as it affects food, drugs and other essential needs.

The National Chairman of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union also emphasized the need for both parties to ensure the strike does not disrupt flight schedule of intending pilgrims for the hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia.

Alhaji Abdulmalik cautioned that elongation of the strike could also affect preparations of Muslims for this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.
