HIGH COURT IN NIGER STATE ISSUED WARRANT OF ARREST OF DIRECTORS OF TWO POWER GENERATING COMPANIES IN THE STATE                                                                                                                                   05-06-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                   The Niger State High Court two has issued a warrant of arrest against the Managing Directors of two Hydroelectric Power Generating Companies in the State.

The court’s directive followed the undermining of the hearing notice it served on the Directors of the power stations, the North South Power Company Limited and the Mainstream Energy Solution Limited to appear before it in a suit filed against them by the complainant, the Niger State Internal Revenue Service.

Issuing the warrant of arrest, Justice Abdullahi Mika’ilu of the High Court Two said the move was also to apprehend and prosecute them for refusal to pay multi billion Naira debts owed the Niger State Internal Revenue Service from 2017 to 2022.

The judge said the directive was in line with section 252 of the Niger State Criminal Justice administration to ensure that defendants appear in Court on the next adjourned date.

According to Justice Abdullahi Mika’ilu, the case is the criminal aspect of the multi-billion Naira suit against the North-South Power Company Limited and the Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited civil case ongoing at the Federal High Court two Minna.

Earlier, Counsel to the plaintiff Aliyu Lemu SAN argued that the non-appearance of the defendants was a deliberate attempt as they had been served with several notices.

Thereafter, the Court adjourned the matter to the 10th of June this year for hearing.
