CORPS MARSHAL OF FRSC EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER FLAGRANT DISOBEDIENCE OF ROAD SAFETY RULES BY SOME COMMERCIAL DRIVERS                                                                                                               14-06-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                              The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Mr. Shehu Mohammed, has expressed concern over the flagrant disobedience of road safety rules by some commercial drivers, especially regarding overloading and carrying both goods and passengers despite series of warnings and campaigns against the menace.

While monitoring the traffic situation during the ongoing Sallah special operation along the Lokoja-Zuba-Kaduna highway, Mr. Shehu Mohammed said the Corps would not relent in arresting and prosecuting motorists who want to constitute nuisance on Nigerian roads.

He stressed that the Corps would continue to engage with transport union leaders and other stakeholders to curb the menace.

According to him, the ugly trend is not good for the country’s image.

“Carrying two passengers in the front seat by small cars and loading goods with passengers by trailers are not acceptable at all, and the Corps will not accept that.”

The FRSC boss commended the professional conduct of the personnel in the ongoing special patrol, saying that monitoring the situation also afforded him the opportunity to identify operational challenges in order to find solutions.

The Corps Marshal used the exercise to distribute flyers and sensitize motorists on the need to always abide by traffic rules and avoid overloading, using phones while driving, and lane indiscipline, among other issues.

The Corps Marshal also disembarked overloaded passengers and warned commuters against boarding overloaded vehicles.

He passionately appealed to motorists to always give maximum cooperation to personnel during the special patrol for effective traffic management and a hitch-free Sallah celebration.
