COURT NULLIFIES KANO STATE GOVERNMENT’S REPEAL EMIRATES LAW                                                                              20-06-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                              The Federal High Court in Kano has set aside the Kano state government’s move to repeal the Kano Emirates Council Law, nullifying the dethroning of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano and the reversal of the creation of four emirates.

The court’s ruling, delivered by Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, also invalidates the re-appointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.

The lawsuit was brought by Aminu Babba Danagundi, a kingmaker in the former Kano emirate, who challenged the legality of the law.

The court’s decision orders all parties to maintain the status quo, effectively restoring the previous state of affairs in the Kano emirates.
