MINISTER OF WORKS UNVEILS 1000 KILOMETERS SOKOTO/BADAGRY SUPPER HIGHWAY                                                                                                                                        03-07-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has unveiled the 1000 kilometers Sokoto/Badagry Super Highway.

Speaking on the occasion of stakeholders engagement, the Minister said, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, directed that, the ancient Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger and Oyo states should be linked with a six lane concrete road.

The Minister stated that, the Sokoto would have 160 kilometers road in its land as phase one while kebbi with phase two to have 258 kilometers long.

According to the Minister, 258 kilometers kebbi road would be put as phase one and to be completed before Sokoto road that will end at Illela border town from Badagry Lagos state.

Umahi stated that, the road from Sokoto to Badagry would be of economic importance as it captured 53 Dams used for Irrigation, Agriculture, Electricity generation and also borders with African countries.

The Minister pointed out that, it is the right time any government to discourage awarding road contracts to International contractors and encourage local contractors saying, international contractors abandoned projects if awarded to them as they collect a lots of contracts.

The Minister also revealed that, henceforth roads construction in Nigeria would be concrete so as to last for 50 to 100 years.

He however assured that, the Ministry will complete the ongoing roads projects in the state before the end of the year.

In their separate Goodwill messages, the National Assembly assured to support for the Sokoto/Badagry Super Highway project for the betterment of Nigerians as well the Kebbi and Sokoto State Governments that are direct beneficiaries of the project.
