NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR ALMAJIRI AND OUT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN EDUCATION TO MOP UP 10,000 OUT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN IN THE FCT BY SEPTEMBER                                                                                                         19-07-24

By Sadiq Aminu.                                                             The National Commission for Almajiri and Out of School Children Education is to mop up 10 thousand out of school children in the FCT by September this year.

The Executive Secretary, Dr. Muhammad Idris made this known while inaugurating the Out of school Children Marshals in Abuja.

He said the exercise which is to commence on Monday in Abuja, as a pilot programme, would be replicated across the country.

Dr. Idris explained that in the pilot programme, the Marshals would go round the FCT to identify and enroll out of school children before resumption in September.

“This is to ensure that we go round the area councils within Abuja to identify those that are not going to school and take them back to school. We are targeting the enrollment of ten thousand if this approach is successful, we are going to replicate it in the thirty-six states of the country” he said

The Executive Secretary said the exercise would be done in collaboration with the traditional institution as they were closer to the people.

“We are going to meet, Chiefs, Emirs and District heads who are having sufficient knowledge about their subjects. They will be able to help us identify those children. The Marshals will approach their parents and enlighten them on the benefits their children will derive when they go back to school”. He further said.

He also said the Commission would carry out research on why parents do not send their children to school.

Dr. Idris urged the Marshals to do their job with humility and dedication .

The Head of the Marshals and Director, Grant Mobilisation in the Commission, Professor Rukayat Tukur pledged to carry out the task ahead diligently.

The Thirty-one Marshals inaugurated were assigned to the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory for the exercise.
