SOME RESIDENTS OF ABIA STATE SAY THEY ARE NOT PART OF THE PROTEST FOLLOWING THE ADVICE OF THEIR POLITICAL LEADERS                                                                      03-08-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                    As the End bad governance protest continues in some parts of the country, some residents of Abia state say they are not part of the protest following the advice of their political leaders to ensure absolute peace in the state and entire southeast zone.

The residents made their feelings known when Africa 247 Correspondent went round the metropolis to ascertain why they shunned the protest.

Umuahia, the Capital City of Abia State has been a beehive of activities as
Government offices, shops and markets open for transactions since the commencement of the Endbadgovernance protest.

Speaking to Africa247, Mr. Chijioke Chukwu and Mr Enyinnaya Solomon said though economic hardship was biting harder, they chose not to protest because they believed in dialogue rather than matching on the streets.

They pointed out that inflation in the country did not start with the present administration but was as a result of banditry, insecurity and corruption which affected all sectors of the economy.

Other residents, Chief Daniel Akwari and Mrs Nkechi Chinedum said though the protesters had good intentions, they resolved to heed the advice of the Deputy Speaker, Chief Benjamin Kalu on the need to give government time to address the contentious issues.

Contributing, Mr Martins Azubuike and Mr Emerson Emenike described the period as not suitable for protest as President Tinubu recently assented the Southeast Development Commission stressing that all issues Ndigbo were agitating for would be achieved when the commission commences work.

They appealed to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to adjust some of the policies of his administration for the peace of the nation.
