By Sadiq Aminu                                                                    Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has inaugurated the State Skills Development Council.

The council is aimed at enhancing skills acquisition across the state.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the Governor explained that the council seeks to address the state’s skills deficit, and enable residents, particularly the youths compete in a fast changing world.

He noted that the initiative was part of the state government’s effort in addressing unemployment and improving living standards through skills acquisition programmes.

Governor Uba Sani said the vocational and technology skills acquisition in Rigachikun, Samaru Kataf, and Soba, which are under construction, have reached an advanced stage.

He pointed out that the state government was also collaborating with the National Board for Technical Education-NBTE to provide the National Skills Qualification Framework certification.

Earlier in his address, Executive Secretary of the NBTE, Professor Idris Bugaje said the initiative would greatly minimize security challenges occasioned by poverty.

Represented by Malam Hussaini Muhammad, the Executive Secretary added that it would also address unemployment and position the state as a model for skills development in Nigeria.

The council has the Governor as chairperson of the council, Deputy Governor as vice chairperson, while Commissioners of Business, innovation and technology, local government affairs, Education, Sports development and human services would serve as members among others.
