NEDC INSPECTS FLOOD-DAMAGED ROADS AND COMMUNITIES IN YOBE STATE                                                                                        09-09-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                      The North-East Development Commission says it is planning to take action to support and repair the roads damaged by floods in some parts of Yobe State and other areas that have been affected by floods in the North-Eastern part of the country.

Managing director of the NEDC Alhaji Muhammad Goni Alkali made the disclosure after a visit to inspect places, and roads washed away by floods in Nangere, Tarmuwa, Potiskum, Gashua, Gaidam and Gujba local governments areas of Yobe State.

Speaking to Newsmen, Alh Alkali assured the affected communities that NEDC would submit their appeals and complaints to the federal government as requested, to ease the hardship and pressure of life occasioned by the flood.

He maintained that the NEDC would provide emergency assistance to the communities and ensure the roads are re-built, particularly Potiskum to Gashua, Damaturu to Gashua, and Geidam, and Damaturu to Biu roads that are partly damaged by excess over flow of water.

He also condoled with the families who lost their loved ones to the tragedy which he said should be consider as a test from God.

A members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW and a Driver Malam Mustapha called on the Federal and Yobe State Government to aid in fixing the roads that were affected by floods and monitor the situation as they have lost over 200 farms to the flood.

The General Manager NEDC Alh. Mohammad Goni Alkali also inspected the ongoing office construction of the commission in Damaturu, and some lecture rooms at Yobe State University as part of the activities to support education in the North East region.

During the visit, the general manager NEDC was accompanied by senior officers of the commission including the officer in charge of Yobe state Dr. Ali Abbas.
