MINISTER OF AVIATION APPEALS TO AVIATION SECTOR UNIONS TO RECONSIDER THEIR PLANNED PEACEFUL PROTEST, EMBRACE DIALOGUE                                                                                                         11-09-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo has appealed to the Aviation Sector unions to reconsider their planned peaceful protest on September 18, 2024, and allow for dialogue to take place.

In a statement, the Minister expressed the belief that through constructive engagement, a mutually beneficial solution can be reached, ensuring the safety and sustainability of the aviation sector.

In response to the concerns raised by the Unions, the Ministry had also scheduled a meeting with the leadership of the unions on September 17, 2024.

According to the statement, the meeting would provide a platform to openly discuss the issues at hand and allow President Bola Tinubu sufficient time to intervene and address the unions’ concerns comprehensively.

Mr. Keyamo assured the unions and all stakeholders that, the Ministry and the President, were fully aware of the situation and were working diligently to find a resolution.

He explained that the Government was committed to ensuring that the aviation sector continues to operate efficiently and safely.

The Aviation workers’ union has earlier scheduled for the 18th of September, 2024 over the deduction of 50% of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) at source by the Government.
