NASIEC FIXES NOVEMBER 2ND 2024 FOR THE CONDUCT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS IN NASSARAWA STATE 02-10-24

Chairman of the commission Ayuba Usman Wandai announced this at a news briefing in Lafia the state capital.
The sudden announcement for the Nasarawa state local government election is in response to a directive by the state Governor Abdullahi Sule during an anniversary broadcast for NASIEC to immediately commence arrangement to conduct the grassroots elections.
The much awaited election has finally been slated to hold in the next four weeks after postponement of the earlier scheduled date of August 31st 2024 due to an originating summons by the federal high court lafia in a matter challenging some sections of the state local government electoral laws 2018..
Ayuba wandai said after studying and analyzing the judgement of the federal high court, the commission has decided to issue notice of election for chairmen and councillors in the 13 local government areas and 147 Electoral wards in the state..
According to the state Electoral boss, the line up of activities for the election include conduct of party primaries and resolution of disputes arising from the primaries to hold between Friday 11th October and Thursday 17th October 2024.
Campaign by political parties to officially commence on Friday 18th October 2024 for both chairmanship and councillorship Candidates.
Publication of final list of nominated candidates is scheduled for Tuesday 29th October 2024..and finally the election day on November 2nd this year.
Ayuba wandai reiterated commitment of the commission to continue to partner the media to further entrench Democratic processes to ensure good governance in the state.
According to the state Electoral guidelines for the local government elections 2024, aspirants for chairmanship will make payment of a non refundable sum of 2.5 million naira while those aspiring for councillorship will make a non refundable payment of one million naira .
The 3 year tenure of incumbent chairmen and councillors in Nasarawa state will expire next week Monday October 7th 2024..
