NAFDAC BOOSTS REGULATORY OVERSIGHT ON PACKAGED FOOD AND WATER PRODUCTION 05-10-24
By Sadiq Aminu The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reinforced its operational intelligence framework to ensure strict adherence to safety standards in the production of packaged foods and water across the country.
This was revealed by the Director of NAFDAC’s North Central Zone, Mr. Francis Ononiwu, during a one-day sensitization workshop in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State. The event was organized for bread producers and packaged water manufacturers, aimed at raising awareness about safety measures, including proper hygiene practices, regulatory compliance, and documentation procedures.
Mr. Ononiwu emphasized the importance of these basic necessities, noting that bread and water are consumed daily by a large portion of the population. He stressed that producers must uphold quality and safety standards, urging them to collaborate closely with NAFDAC by reporting unethical practices and non-compliant operators for necessary actions.
“We shall go all out for full enforcement especially this time that the Christmas and New year celebrations are close. We know some people would want to cash in on the increasing consumption of food and water during the period and produce substandard products. We shall be out for them to ensure only regulated package food and water products are sold to people, ” he said.
Former Chairman of the Nasarawa State Association of Table Water Producers, Mr. Alfred Alogala, and master baker Mr. Cletus Amarachi, described the workshop as timely and insightful. They are committed to passing the knowledge gained to their employees to ensure that safety and hygiene standards are maintained within their operations.
The sensitization session also included a question-and-answer segment, allowing participants to engage directly with regulators.
