By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 Delta State Government has inaugurated a Commission of Inquiry to look into boundary disputes, and communal clashes in Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom and its neighbouring communities.

At the ceremony in Asaba, the State Acting Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, announced the suspension of all activities of clan chiefs installed in the affected areas and beyond by the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku pending the outcome of the proceedings of the Commission of Inquiry.

He noted with concern that the peaceful community of Ogwashi-Uku had been embroiled in internal crises bordering on kingship and land ownership tussle, , saying that lives and property had been lost in the ensuing conflicts.

The Delta State Acting Governor who emphasized that enhanced Peace and Security formed one of the cardinal programmes of the administration’s MORE agenda, said the state government would nip in the bud anything that will destabilise the state and truncate the developmental aspirations.

Sir Onyeme said having examined the facts of the disputes as presented by the contending parties and stakeholders, the State Security Council resolved that a Commission of Inquiry be constituted to investigate the matter, unravel the remote and immediate causes of the crises, and make appropriate recommendations that will engender lasting peace.

He urged all the clan heads, chiefs, relevant stakeholders, and residents of the affected communities to give the commission the necessary support and cooperation to enable it get to the root of the matter and make appropriate recommendations to government within the shortest possible time.
