NEDC PROVIDES RELIEF TO FLOOD-AFFECTED COMMUNITIES IN YOBE STATE                                                                          07-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                      The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has stepped in to provide crucial support to communities in Yobe State affected by severe flooding.

Delivering relief items to alleviate hardship and aid in recovery, the Commission’s Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, highlighted the importance of the relief effort, emphasizing that it aims to mitigate the impact of the floods and support affected communities in rebuilding their lives.

“The NEDC is committed to helping communities in the North East region overcome the challenges they face, and this relief effort is a testament to our dedication,” said Alkali”

Represented by Yobe State Coordinator of the NEDC Professor Ali Ibrahim Abbas during the distribution, Mr Alkali said the Commission is committed to support communities in rebuilding their lives and promoting resilience and hope for a brighter future for those affected by floods in Yobe State

The Executive Chairman of Fune Local Government, Bagoni Bade, expressed gratitude for the NEDC’s timely intervention, praising the Commission’s dedication to improving the lives of people in the region.

“The NEDC’s support is crucial in addressing the immediate needs of these communities and promoting long-term recovery and resilience,” Bade stated, acknowledging the significant impact the relief effort will have.

According to the State Emergency Management Agency, the flooding in Yobe State has severely impacted over 239,000 people, forcing many to seek refuge in temporary shelters.

The NEDC’s support is a lifeline for these communities, providing vital resources to help them cope with the devastating effects of the floods.

Donated items include 200 bags of rice, 200 cartons of spaghetti/macaroni, 200 gallons of vegetable oil, 200 pieces of nylon mats, and other essential non-food items.
