7 PERSONS CONFIRMED DEAD AFTER TWO BUILDINGS CRUMBLED AT AN ESTATE IN SABON LUGBE AREA OF THE FCT                                                                                  26-10-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  The Acting Director General FCT Emergency Management Development, Mr. Abdulrahman Mohammed stated while briefing newsmen during rescue operations.

He explained that the incident occurred last night while scavengers were excavating metals from some buildings that were earlier demolished by the FCTA Development Control.

According to Mr. Mohammed, rescue operations commenced immediately after the scavengers were trapped in the rubble and two injured persons are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre.

MR. Mohammed who remarked that rescue operations would continue till the number of victims were ascertained warned against fake reports circulating that 40 persons were killed as a result of building collapse.

The Acting Director General FCT Emergency Management Development also expressed concern over the activities of scavengers at the site and stressed that efforts were ongoing to prevent them from accessing the buildings.
