3-DAY RETREAT ON TACKLING THE MENACE OF OUT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN AND REFORMATION OF THE ALMAJIRI SYSTEM OF EDUCATION ENDS IN ABUJA                                                                                                     11-11-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The three day retreat on tackling the menace of out of school children and reformation of the Almajiri system of Education has ended in Abuja with stakeholders emphasizing the urgent need for reliable and verifiable data on the number of out of school children in the country.

In a Communique, the stakeholders said this would enable the government to make informed decisions to end the scourge.

They advocated more funding from government, corporate entities, international organizations, and individuals to address the challenges posed by these vulnerable groups.

The stakeholders stressed the need for the government at all levels to demonstrate renewed commitment to education and employ as well as train teachers to ensure quality education, leveraging on technology.

They advocated the integration of skills acquisition into teaching and learning for self reliance.

The stakeholders also called for more sensitization of the public on the commission’s mission and vision.

Africa247 Correspondent reports that the recommendations from the retreat are geared towards developing a comprehensive strategic roadmap to address the challenges faced by these vulnerable groups in Nigeria and across the continent.
