NLC ZAMFARA STATE COUNCIL THREATENS TO EMBARK ON INDUSTRIAL ACTION OVER NON-IMPLEMENTATION OF NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE 19-11-24
By Sadiq Aminu The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Zamfara State Council has threatened to Embark on Industrial Action Over Non-Implementation of National Minimum Wage from first of December 2024.
In a statement by the Chairperson of the Congress, Comrade Sani Halliru
Magajin Rafin Kurya says the decision was taken during its Executive Council meeting and unanimously resolved to demand the immediate implementation of the National Minimum Wage of Seventy Thousand Naira N70,000 from the Zamfara State Government.
It says the decision aligns with the directives issued by the NLC National Secretariat in its communique following the NEC meeting held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on November 8, 2024.
“The communique condemned the refusal of some state governments, including Zamfara, to implement the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act, describing it as a betrayal of workers’ rights amidst rising economic challenges”
The statement explains that, the SEC meeting resolved that all affiliate unions in Zamfara State have endorsed the ultimatum given to the state government to implement the minimum wage by the end of November 2024.
It notes that, failure to implement the wage will compel the NLC and its affiliates to embark on an indefinite industrial action by shutting down the state from December 1, 2024.
According to the statement, the NLC Zamfara State Council stands firmly in solidarity with Nigerian workers in their fight for justice and dignity.
“The failure to implement the minimum wage is a blatant disregard for the law, morality, and the well-being of workers who continue to endure immense hardship”
It call on all workers in the State to prepare for the industrial action, described it as a necessary step to secure their rights and improve their livelihoods.
The statement reveals that, NLC remains committed to advocating for the welfare of workers and ensuring that the government fulfills its obligations.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. Nigerian workers deserve their rightful wages, and we will not relent until the minimum wage is fully implemented in Zamfara State.”
