UNIZIK VC SELECTION: MDCAN PROTESTS EXCLUSION OF MEDICAL, DENTAL LECTURERS                                                                                                                                 20-11-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                The Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) has expressed deep concern over the exclusion of Medical and Dental Lecturers from the selection process for the vacant office of Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka.

The National President of the Association Professor Muhammad Aminu Muhammad made the disclosure during an interactive session with newsmen in Kano.

The MDCAN argues that the criteria used in the recent advert unfairly excludes Medical and Dental Lecturers, undermining their critical role in academic and administrative leadership.

The Associations Key Concerns is that Medical and Dental education is vital to producing competent healthcare professionals.

Exclusion sends a message that Medical and Dental Lecturers’ contributions are undervalued.

This move may lead to breakdown in academic collaboration, reduced morale, and affected quality of education.

“The exclusion of Medical and Dental Lecturers is unjust and undermines their critical role… We urge swift resolution to maintain UNIZIK’s status as a center of excellence.”

The MDCAN urges the Governing Council of UNIZIK to:

Withdraw the earlier advert, Ensure representation of all academic disciplines, particularly Medical and Dental Lecturers and Maintain the university’s status as a center of excellence in Medical and Dental education.

The MDCAN warns that if left unresolved, the situation may degenerate into a national issue, affecting academic excellence and leadership in Nigerian universities.

The MDCAN leadership and members remain committed to supporting academic excellence and leadership, fully backing the steps taken by UNIZIK members to address this issue.
