FCCPC LAUNCHES AN INQUIRY INTO WIDESPREAD CONSUMER COMPLAINTS AGAINST LEADING PLAYERS IN THE BANKING, TELECOMMUNICATIONS, AND AVIATION SECTORS                                                                                                                    01-12-24
By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has launched an inquiry into widespread consumer complaints against leading players in the banking, telecommunications, and aviation sectors.

The inquisitions, are intended to address issues of poor service delivery, exploitative practices, and potential consumer rights violations.

A Statement by the Director, Corporate Affairs Ondaje Ijagwu says the commission will engage one of the generational bank over reports of network failures that hinder customers from accessing their funds or using banking applications.

The Statement notes that the commission will also quizzes a leading telecommunication industry for persistent complaints of undelivered data services, unexplained data depletion, and inadequate customer care.

It will also address allegations of exploitative ticket pricing, including significant price hikes for advance bookings on certain domestic routes by one of the air transport company.

The statement maintains that these companies will appear before it to provide information and responses to enable the Commission to make determinations and resolve all of the complaints in furtherance to it commitment to safeguard consumer rights, foster fair marketplace and ensure accountability across all sectors.
