ASRTI CONDEMNS ARBITRARY FEEL HIKE
17-12-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                               The Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI) has called for an immediate reversal of the fees and charges hike imposed by the ground handling companies in the country.

The body has urged a conciliatory tripartite meeting involving the handling companies, airlines, and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The group emphasized that this meeting should result in a mutually acceptable resolution on handling charges.

In a statement released by the ASRTI Publicity Secretary, Mr. Albinus Chiedu, ASRTI, the group criticized what it alleged as outrageously high handling fees, noting that the development comes at a time when stakeholders are advocating for government intervention to reduce airlines’ operating costs.

Such measures, they argue, are crucial to achieving lower airfares and ensuring the survival of Nigerian airlines.

“The purported astronomical increase negates the spirit of taming inflation in the aviation sector. It is capable of further reducing patronage by the traveling public and may compromise safety in the sector,” the statement read.
