NIGERIA TO LEARN FROM CHINA’S CULTURAL BRANDING SUCCESS 22-12-24
By Sadiq Aminu The Federal government plans to adopt lessons from China’s success in cultural branding to boost its own tourism and creative industries.
The Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Dr. Hannatu Musawa, revealed this at a New Year gala celebrating China-Nigeria friendship in Abuja, hosted by the China Cultural Centre.
Highlighting China’s global influence through cultural exports like food, martial arts, and cinema, the Minister noted the potential for Nigeria to monetize its rich cultural heritage.
She expressed optimism about co-production agreements and capacity-building initiatives between the two nations to enhance the creative and cultural sectors.
The cultural Counsellor of Chinese Embassy in Nigeria Mr.Yang Jianxing emphasized the importance of cultural and people-to-people exchanges in strengthening China-Nigeria relations.
He announced that the China Cultural Centre would host activities in 2025 to promote culture, tourism, and education under the “Beijing Action Plan” of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Nigeria-China Relations, Mr. Jafaru Yakubu commended the longstanding ties between the countries.
He called for stronger cultural and legislative collaboration, stressing the parliaments commitment to fostering bilateral relations across multiple sectors.
The event featured performances and cultural displays, reinforcing the growing partnership between Nigeria and China.
Both nations pledged to deepen cooperation in cultural diplomacy, with Nsikan Paul of Drum Majors for Peace emphasizing its role in promoting peace and inclusivity through dialogue and collective action.
