ECOWAS REJECTS CLAIMS OF SUPPORTING TERRORISM IN NIGERIA                                                                                                               27-12-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                 The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has expressed concern over allegations claiming Nigeria and other member states are sponsoring terrorism.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Commission firmly rejected these accusations, calling them baseless and unfounded.

The regional body highlighted Nigeria’s longstanding commitment to peace and security across West Africa and the broader African continent.

It noted the country’s leading role in initiatives such as the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), which has recorded significant successes in combating insurgency and promoting stability in the region.

ECOWAS described Nigeria as a generous and magnanimous nation, emphasizing that such a country cannot be associated with sponsoring terrorism.

The Commission urged regional states to focus on fostering dialogue and stability instead of making unsubstantiated accusations.

The statement reaffirmed ECOWAS’s support for Nigeria and its commitment to regional peace and unity.
