FG UNVEILS TECHNOLOGY TO MANAGE PLASTIC POLLUTION                                                                                                            23-01-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                As part of effort in curbing Plastic pollution, the Federal Government has unveiled a Technology known as Reverse Vending Machine for proper management of plastic waste in Nigeria.
During the launch of the technology at the National Assembly Complex Abuja, the Minister of environment Mallam Balarabe Abbas Lawal said the initiative allows individuals to deposit bottles and other recyclable materials, receiving a reward in return.

Mallam Lawal explained, pointing out that the initiative would also encourage proper waste disposal and creates a culture of recycling, where each citizen can actively participate in the protection of the environment.

According to the Minister, the technology promotes circular economy, such as instead of plastic ending up in landfills or polluting oceans, it re-enters the production cycle, reducing the demand for new resources and minimizing ecological footprint.

He said economic opportunities and jobs would be created and local industries boosted.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Environment, Mr. Mahmud Kambari noted that Plastic waste has become a global menace, with consequences on environment, human health, and the economy, hence the need for an urgency strategies to promote sustainable waste management.

Chairman House Committee on Environment, Mr. Julius Pondi, while commending Federal Government for the initiative, said the National Assembly would continue to be committed to promoting good governance and Socio-economic development of the country.
