FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SACKS UNIABUJA VICE CHANCELLOR 06-02-25
By Sadiq Aminu Report just reaching says the Federal Government has approved a major restructuring of key officials across some institutions.
A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo explains that the Federal Government dissolved the entire Governing Council, both external and internal of the Yakubu Gowon University, formerly University of Abuja.
It says Senator Lanre Tejuoso has been appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor, transitioning from his previous role as the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
Also, Professor Lar Patricia Manko has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor for a six-month tenure with the condition that she will not be eligible to apply for the substantive Vice-Chancellor position whenever it is advertised by the Governing Council,
Furthermore, Professor Maikudi has been removed as the Vice-Chancellor
For University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Mr. Akin Ojo, who previously served as the Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja, has been reassigned as the new Pro-Chancellor.
Similarly, General Ike Nwachukwu, who formerly held the position of Pro-Chancellor at UNN, has been reassigned as the new Pro-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, while Professor Oguejiofor Ujam has been appointed as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor for a six month period, with the condition that he will not be eligible to apply for the substantive Vice-Chancellor position when it is advertised while the tenure of the current Acting Vice Chancellor, which expires on February 14, 2025, will not be renewed.
Other Universities affected are Alvan Ikoku University of Education with Senator Sani Stores appointed as the New Pro-Chancellor.
Similarly, at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, the Federal Government appointed Mr. Olugbenga Kukoyi as the new Pro-Chancellor of the institution.
Meanwhile, at the Federal University of Lokoja, Professor Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi has been appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor.
According to the statement, the move is aimed at strengthening governance and leadership in Nigeria’s Federal universities.
