HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES URGES FG TO SUSPEND PLAN INCREASE IN TELECOM TARRIF                                                                                                                                          11-02-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government through its relevant agencies to suspend the planned increase in the Telecommunication Tarrif until telecom service providers improve on their service delivery.

The House in an urgent motion of Public importance sponsored by the member representing Yenagoa Opokuma Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State, Obuku Oforgi, the Housedescribed the proposed Tarrif increase as insensitive and a further burden on consumers already grappling with economic hardship, and poor network service delivery.
According to Mr Oforgi, small businesses, which rely heavily on affordable telecommunication for operations, marketing, and customer engagement, will face additional financial burden, if the increase is approved.

Adopting the motion the House urged the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Nigerian Communications Commissions to suspend the impending hike in telecommunications tariffs until their service improved.
The Green Chamber also mandated its Committee on Telecommunications to ensure compliance.
