FEDERAL HIGH COURT STOPS ZAMFARA ASSEMBLY FROM SACKING APC LEGISLATOR                                                                                                                24-02-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                       The Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, has stopped the state House of Assembly from removing Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara, the APC lawmaker representing Talata Mafara South Constituency.

In a statement issued by the APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, Yusuf Idris Gusau reveals that the ruling followed a suit (No. FHC/GSCS/10/2025) filed by Kagara against the Zamfara State House of Assembly, its Speaker, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), listed as the first, second, and third defendants, respectively.

It says the suit, presided over by Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim challenged Kagara’s removal by the Assembly’s leadership.

According to the statement, the court granted an interim injunction restraining INEC from conducting a bye-election for the Talata Mafara South Constituency, currently represented by Kagara.

Justice Olasupo also ordered that the status quo be maintained pending the hearing of the Motion on Notice and the substantive suit before the court.

The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended nine lawmakers across party lines, reducing its membership below the two-thirds majority required to pass bills. Any legislation passed under these circumstances could be deemed unconstitutional.
