HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES APPROVE 2025 BUDGET FOR SOUTH EAST DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION                                                                                03-03-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                     The House of Representatives has expressed optimism that with the approval of the 2025 Budget for the South East Development Commission, it will mark the beginning of developing the area which has been neglected for over 54 years after the civil war
The Chairman House Committee on SEDC, Mr. Chris Nkwonta made this submission while briefing Journalists after the budget defence by the Management of the Commission.
Mr. Nkwonta noted that with the approved budget of N250 billion presented by the commission, if well implemented it would go a long way in addressing some of the challenges of the region.

While commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the SEDC bill into law, the House Committee Chairman on South East Development Commission said with the budget, the neglected part of the South East will now witness government presence in terms of infrastructural development.
He said that the budget would be targeted at addressing infrastructural deficits in the geopolitical zone.

“This budget essentially is going to target those areas where there were deficits in terms of infrastructure, erosion and other areas of human capital development

“You are aware that since after the civil war, the South East has been. What it ought to be. Remember that at the end of the civil War there was this promise that was made to us.
He explained that the Commission is expected to build roads, bridges, railway and manpower development.
Mr. Nkwonta said that the SEDC through its projects implementation would bring about end to agitations and youthful unrest in the area.
