NIGERIA HOSTS REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUEL FINANCING                                                                                                                  12-05-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                      Nigeria has played host to a high-level regional workshop on financing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production.

The five-day hybrid event, held in Lagos with the theme “Access to Finance for SAF Production”, attracted key stakeholders from across 14 African countries.

The workshop was organized by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in collaboration with the National Council on Climate Change Secretariat and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, under the ACT-SAF Africa–India Project.

It focused on addressing the challenges around investment, de-risking strategies, and project bankability in SAF production across the continent.

Coordinated by Mrs. Yinka Iriobe of NCAA’s Directorate of Air Transport Regulations, the event featured presentations from international financial institutions, SAF developers, and policymakers.

It also explored funding mechanisms, technology solutions, and sustainability frameworks for SAF deployment.

A major highlight of the workshop was the inauguration of six Technical Working Groups by the NCAA Director General, Capt. Chris Najomo.

The groups will focus on key areas including policy and regulation, funding, technology, environmental impact, feedstock, and infrastructure development to support Nigeria’s SAF roadmap.

Speaking through the Regional Manager of the NCAA Lagos Office, Bukola Teriba, Capt. Najomo emphasized the importance of financing in reducing aviation’s environmental footprint and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, in line with ICAO’s Long-Term Aspirational Goal.
