NIGERIAN FIRST LADY EMPOWERS 400 WOMEN FARMERS IN DELTA 14-05-25
By Sadiq Aminu Four hundred women farmers, cooperatives groups, youths and members of the school young farmers clubs in Delta have been empowered with various farm inputs and financial grants by the Renewed Hope Initiative of the Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu in collaboration with the You Matter Charity Foundation of the Wife of Delta State Governor, Mrs Tobore Oborevwori.
At the agricultural support programme of the RHI held in Asaba, Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu described the initiative as Operation feed your family and give to your neighbours,
Mrs Tinubu represented by the wife of Delta State Governor, Mrs Tobore Oborevwori, said the agricultural programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative was aimed at bringing Nigerians back on track and help increase food production in the nation.
” We have four categories of 400 farmers to benefit from this program. The women, the Youth, Secondary schools Students and farming Groups in the state, you will go home with various farm implement and seedlings.”
” It is joyful to see women, young farmers in Secondary Schools, the Youth and cooperatives getting acquainted with farming. Gardening as an age long practice which helped our forefathers to keep their family going..”
The ‘ Every home a garden’ initiative brings to bear the importance of home gardening which will help to reduce economic hardship on families, The beauty of it all is that it is not restricted to gender or age. Growing your own food can help you eat healthier, promote a better diet and supply fresh, and healthy produce”, stated Oluremi.
The First Lady of the country appreciated the commissioners in the Ministries of Agriculture and natural resources, Basic Education and the Youth Development for their collaborative efforts for the success of the empowerment programme.
Wife of Delta State Governor, Mrs Tobore Oborevwori represented by Mrs Ezinne Onyeme, Wife of the State Deputy Governor said the empowerment portrayed unwavering commitment to ensuring that farmers are equipped with the necessary tools and financial support to thrive in their agricultural endeavors.
”Agriculture remains one of the pillars of economic growth and development, not just in Delta State, but across Nigeria. It is the foundation of food security critical for employment and wealth creation. ”
”Farmers constitute a significant percentage of the population, yet they often face challenges ranging from limited access to resources, financial support, and modern agricultural techniques. Empowering them is not just an intervention—it is a necessity, it is about restoring hope, fostering food security, boosting household incomes, and encouraging them to see farming as a viable business that can transform lives and uplift communities”, asserted Tobore Oborevwori.
She urged the benefitting farmers to maximize the resources provided , and see the support as a stepping stone to greater achievements—improving food productivity, and creating employment opportunities, thereby contributing to the broader vision of prosperity for Delta State and Nigeria.
Delta State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Val Areyinka lauded the gesture of the Renewed Hope Initiative in coming to the aid of the agricultural sector. saying that agriculture is life.
He encouraged all Nigerians to go into farming, emphasizing that it’s the way to combat hunger and make food available.
Beneficiaries of the farm inputs and financial grants were full of gratitude to the Wife of the President for the empowerment, and promised to put to productive use the farm inputs to boost food sufficiency.
Highlight of the event was the distribution of farm inputs including bags of fertilizer, wheelbarrows, seedlings, cassava steps, pesticides, herbicides, fingerlings, chicks, goat kids as well as financial grants.
