By Sadiq Aminu                                                        Bauchi State Government has approved the recruitment of two thousand one hundred local vigilantes this year to boost security in troubled areas.

This decision follows a recent deadly attack by bandits in Duguri and Gwana communities of Alkaleri Local Government Area, killing twenty three people.

During a sympathy visit to the affected communities, Governor Bala Mohammed condemned the killings describing it as unacceptable incident.

He stated that the vigilantes’ recruitment would be in phases starting with three hundred new members this week for frontline security operations.

The Governor commended the vigilantes for their courage noting their efforts led to the deaths of several bandits during retaliation.

He added that the state is working with the federal government to enhance overall security and protect residents across Bauchi State.

In his address, the state commissioner of police Sani Omolori Aliyu who was represented by DCP Muhammad Hassan Ahmed said displaced persons have returned to their communities and police are working to fish out perpetrators.

The District heads of Duguri Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri and his counterpart of Gwana Alhaji Ahmed Sani Jumba urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible information to apprehend criminal elements.
