LAGOS POLICE ARRESTS TWO OVER MURDER AND ARSON OF YOUNG WOMAN IN MILE 12 SLUM                                                                                    27-05-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                      The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended two principal suspects in connection with the horrific killing of a young woman whose body was discovered burnt in the Gangare slum, near the canal behind Mile 12 Market on Saturday, May 24.

In an official statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the victim, originally from Nasarawa State, was murdered in what authorities described as a premeditated attack. Early findings indicate the crime stemmed from a personal dispute involving the victim’s estranged boyfriend, who is now on the run.

Police say the deceased had been living in the area with her northern relatives. Contrary to circulating rumors, she was not involved in any act of blasphemy, and her ethnic background was misidentified in some reports. Investigators revealed that after she ended a relationship, her former boyfriend allegedly conspired with others to force her back into the affair. When she resisted, she was attacked, killed, and her body set on fire.

“This was a calculated and cold-blooded act of murder,” said CSP Hundeyin, emphasizing that there is no religious or ethnic motive behind the crime.

Two of the suspects directly involved have been taken into custody and are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where they are assisting police in locating additional suspects.

The police have moved quickly to restore calm in the area, assuring the public that there are no threats of reprisals or ethnic clashes in Mile 12 or surrounding communities. Authorities have also urged Lagosians to avoid spreading false narratives that may inflame tensions.

“The Command remains fully committed to bringing all culprits to justice and maintaining the peace and safety of every resident,” the statement read.

Further details will be made public as investigations continue.
