Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has suggested the immediate and strategic collaboration with the Federal Government to combat growing insurgency threats.

The Governor gave the advice in Abuja when he met with President Bola Tinubu on the deteriorating security situation in the Northeast, particularly Borno State.

“Purposely, I came to brief him on the security situation in the Northeast and in particular in Borno State. This is the main reason why I came. Because you have heard it all, that within the last few days, things are not getting very well in Northern Nigeria, particularly in the North East”, the Governor lamented.

Governor Zulum, who has just returned from a week-long tour of some of the most affected local government areas, said the visit gave him firsthand insight into the challenges on the ground.

“We are trying to see how we shall reduce the incessant attacks on military formations and others. So I came and I briefed Mr. President on how possibly best we can, the state and the federal, work together in order to reduce such problems that we are facing”, he stated.

President Tinubu, according to the Governor, reiterated his administration’s commitment to fighting insecurity across Nigeria.

He said one of the key strategies discussed was the establishment of forest guards, describing it as a potential game changer in tackling insurgents hiding in remote regions.

“Above all, some of the Boko Haram and ISWAP members are using some sophisticated weapons. I believe the federal government is also working on this direction,” he noted.

Re-affirming the determination of his administration against insecurity, the Governor vowed that no local government would be allowed to be taken over by Boko Haram or ISWAP members.

He urged the Armed Forces to rise to the challenge and defend all local government areas from terrorist occupation.

“The President has given me assurance that they will do everything possible to control the situation”, the Governor stated.
