461 BAGS OF CANNABIS SATIVA WEIGHING ABOUT 4764 KG SEIZED BY THE NASARAWA STATE COMMAND OF NDLEA                                                                                                                      29-05-25

            By Sadiq Aminu                                                         A total of 461 bags of Cannabis Sativa weighing about four thousand Seven hundred and sixty four kilograms have been seized in the last one month by the Nasarawa state command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA.

Briefing newsmen at the command headquarters in lafia, the state commander of NDLEA Mr Dechi Elisha said the seizure was made alongside arrest of Eight suspected suppliers of the illegal substance.

He explained that the arrest and seizure followed intensive intelligence gathering by personnel aimed at curtailing the supply chain of illegal drugs and other psychotropic substances across the state.

“We are able to dismantle some drug joints in the state…The seizures that are disturbing are those of Cannabis sativa within the month of May 2025..On Friday 16th May 2025 around Karu local government area..one Welman Kengbo, 60 years old man was arrested with 59 and half bags of Cannabis sativa weighing 594.8kg. And 387 bags of yet another Cannabis sativa at keffi local government area.”

According to Mr Dechi, within the month of May, the command has been able to sensitize about Eleven thousand, one hundred and seven persons in various places including Markets, motor parks, primary and secondary schools, Mosques and Churches as well as palaces of traditional rulers.

The NDLEA commander expressed appreciation to the state government for the provision of vehicles but appealed for additional operational vehicles and other logistics to enhance performance.

Mr Dechi Elisha solicited cooperation of the public in fighting the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the state and country at large.
