By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Relief items were officially distributed to people affected by the recent flood disaster in Mokwa town, Niger State. The distribution took place at the Mokwa Local Government Secretariat.

This effort followed the approval of relief materials by the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The event was led by Alhaji Aliyu Waziri, Director of NEMA’s North Central office, and Air Commodore A.K. Oyong, Director of Search and Rescue at NEMA Headquarters, Abuja.

At the event, some items were symbolically handed over to a few affected individuals. The rest of the materials were given to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and the Secretary of Mokwa Local Government Council, Muhammad Jiya, who is also the Chairman of the Distribution Committee. These items will be further shared with other flood victims.

The distribution committee included local leaders such as the Sarkin Hausawa of Mokwa, Alhaji Tanko Bala, representatives from Jumma’at Nasir Islam (JNI), and youth corpers serving in the area. They all assisted in organizing and distributing the items.

Other organizations present included the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Police Force, Civil Defence Corps, Road Safety Corps, International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

This distribution shows the strong cooperation between NEMA, local leaders, youth corpers, and humanitarian groups to quickly support people affected by disasters.
