GOMBE POLICE BAN WEAPONS, RESTRICT MOTORCYCLE MOVEMENT TO BOOST PUBLIC SAFETY                                                                                            11-06-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                            The Gombe State Police Command has rolled out a series of stringent security measures aimed at maintaining public safety during festive periods, large gatherings, and other public events.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, the Command has banned the public display and possession of dangerous weapons such as knives, cutlasses, machetes, daggers, clubs, and similar objects across the state.

The move targets efforts to curb violence and activities linked to local gang clashes, especially those associated with the “Kalare” group.

CP Yahaya stressed that the Nigerian Constitution and criminal laws prohibit the unlawful possession of offensive weapons, warning that the Command will adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward any acts that threaten public peace.

In addition to the weapons ban, the police have introduced new restrictions on motorcycle operations in the state.

Motorcycle movements are now prohibited between 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM daily. Riders are also restricted to carrying only one passenger, and the use of truck-style or excessively loud horns is now banned.

Security personnel have been directed to enforce these measures strictly, with violators facing arrest and prosecution.

The Command urged traditional rulers, community leaders, event organizers, parents, and the Motorcycle Riders Association to support awareness campaigns and ensure compliance with the new regulations.

While reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property, the Gombe State Police Command called on the public to report any suspicious activities or violations to the nearest police station.
