PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES COMPTROLLER GENERAL OF THE NCS ON HIS ELECTION AS CHAIRPERSON OF THE WORLD CUSTOMS ORGANISATION’S COUNCIL 30-07-25
By Sadiq Aminu President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Comptroller General election of the Nigerian Customs Service, Bashir Wale Adeniyi, on his recent election as the Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation’s Council.
Comptroller Adeniyi was unanimously elected in Brussels, to lead the World Customs Organisation, which consists of one hundred and eighty six member nations.
He therefore, becomes the first Nigerian to head the seventh three year old global Organisation, which is dedicated to Customs Operations and Standards.
The Presidential congratulatory message is contained in a Statement, issued by the Presidential Spokesman, Mr Bayo Onanuga, in Abuja.
In it, President Tinubu extends his congratulations to the Customs High Command, the Customs Board, the Management and the Staff, for attaining such a global recognition and honour.
He however describes the hoisting of the Nigerian Flag at the Headquarters of the World Customs Organisation as a significant milestone for Nigeria, in a comity of maritime nations.
He urged Comptroller Adeniyi to meet and even surpass the expectations of the World Customs Organisation’s Council, in his new global leadership roles.
President Tinubu thanked the World Customs Organisation’s General Secretary and the Council’s members, for their unanimous support for Comptroller Adeniyi, while assuring the International Community that, his administration would continue to support Adeniyi’s stewardship at the Council.
Comptroller Adeniyi succeeds Mr Edward Kieswetter, a Commissioner for South African Revenue Services, as the Chairs of the World Customs Organisation’s Council.
The Organisation’s Council is the highest decision making body, tasked with promoting uniformity, innovation and best practices in Customs Administration worldwide.
