NELFUND SETS NEW RULE FOR STUDENT UPKEEP LOAN………

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced that upkeep loans will now be paid only during an institution’s academic session. Once a session ends, upkeep payments for that year will stop.

According to NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, students moving into a new academic year will not receive upkeep for the previous one. Applicants are advised to apply at the start of each session to access both tuition and upkeep loans.

The loan portal is being updated to reflect this change, showing only upkeep collected for the current session. Institutions are also urged to upload academic calendars on time to ensure students get full benefits.

NELFUND says it remains committed to transparent and accessible loan support for Nigerian students.
