By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The First Lady and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reinforced her drive for women empowerment with the support of 1,000 women entrepreneurs in Lagos and the launch of a new Industrial Leather Hub in Mushin.

Speaking at the Lagos Empowerment Programme, she explained that the initiative provides women with the tools and opportunities to grow businesses, reduce poverty, and contribute to national prosperity. Over 18,500 women across the six geopolitical zones are expected to benefit.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who praised Senator Tinubu’s decades of service and commitment, urged beneficiaries to put the empowerment tools to productive use. He announced that the leather hub, renamed in honor of the First Lady, would generate about 10,000 jobs, with most opportunities targeted at women and youths.

Senator Tinubu described the hub as a milestone for Lagos, positioning the state as Africa’s foremost leather hub while strengthening small businesses and local manufacturing.

The programme, which drew dignitaries including the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, and the Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, was seen as another step in advancing the Renewed Hope vision of enterprise, inclusion, and sustainable development.
