Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has renewed her call for special schools to give out-of-school girls a second chance at education.
Speaking at a meeting with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and political stakeholders in Lagos, Mrs Tinubu said her Renewed Hope Initiative is centered on grassroots development and girl-child empowerment. She urged states to adopt Lagos’ alternative high school model introduced 17 years ago, pledging collaboration with UBEC and state governments to expand the idea nationwide.
She also assured monarchs that their demands for constitutional recognition and inclusion of the 37 LCDAs would be conveyed to the National Assembly.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described her visit as transformative, while Speaker Mudashiru Obasa praised her commitment to education, food security, poverty alleviation, and leadership training for girls.
The event was attended by dignitaries including the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, and Lagos State First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
