KANO MOVES AGAINST ILLEGAL CHAINSAW USE

The Kano State Government has banned the illegal use of chainsaws to protect forests and the environment.
Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru Mohammad Hashim, said all chainsaw operators must now obtain permits under a new framework. Each chainsaw will be tagged, and permits renewed yearly.
No tree can be cut without approval, and every felled tree must be replaced with new saplings. Violators face heavy fines, confiscation of equipment, or jail time.
Dr. Hashim urged community leaders, schools, and security agencies to support enforcement, stressing that Kano is taking bold steps to stop deforestation.
