NPC, UNICEF, ALGON LAUNCH DIGITAL BIRTH REGISTRATION TRAINING IN ZAMFARA

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The National Population Commission (NPC), in partnership with UNICEF and ALGON, has kicked off a three-day training on Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (eCRVS) in Zamfara.

The initiative aims to boost birth registration through a new digital system that replaces the manual process, ensuring accuracy and transparency.

NPC’s Federal Commissioner in Zamfara, Muhammad Muttaka Rini, urged parents and community leaders to present children for registration, stressing that birth certificates provide identity, protection, and government recognition.

He added that the project will generate vital data for planning health and demographic policies. The Commission is also working with NIMC to link every registered child to a National Identification Number (NIN).

Despite challenges like insecurity and manpower shortages, Rini expressed optimism with the support of Governor Dauda Lawal, traditional rulers, and partners.

Officials and religious leaders called for grassroots mobilization to ensure no community is left out, while reaffirming that registration for children up to 17 years is free.
