RMAFC, AGENCIES BEGIN VERIFICATION OF DISPUTED OIL WELLS IN NIGER DELTA

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) says it is working with sister agencies to resolve disputes over crude oil and gas wells across oil-producing states.

Chairman Dr. Mohammed Shehu, during a visit to Asaba, said the Inter-Agency Technical Committee has been inaugurated to verify disputed and newly drilled wells, ensuring states get their rightful share of the 13% derivation fund.

He explained that the exercise follows petitions from states like Anambra, Imo, and Delta over ownership of fields such as Aneize, Eyine, and Ameshi. The committee will also cover Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, Akwa Ibom, and Ondo, using geospatial data to map and confirm coordinates.

Dr. Shehu stressed that the move aims to reduce tensions, promote fairness, and protect the Federation Account by ensuring equitable distribution of oil revenue.
